Happy 1st Anniversary
We were sitting on the couch together, sipping champagne, nibbling on the chocolate covered strawberries the concierge had brought up for us.
It was September 19, 2016 and Jason and I were in our hotel suite in Florida reflecting back on the past year - our first full year of marriage together.
The first 12 months of matrimony were filled with our fair share of arguments, tears, exasperated sighs, lessons on loss and compromise, but mostly days filled with love, side-splitting laughter, and proud accomplishments.
"We make a great team" I toasted as Jason and I clinked glasses. "I know for the most part we've been very blessed and have had a great year, but what is something you want me to work on this next year of marriage?" I asked.
Jason thought for a moment and then after a sigh he quietly said, "I want you to say 'yes' more."
(Yeah, you and every husband) I thought with a smirk. I looked at him with a puzzled expression before he continued.
"I want you to say 'yes' more. I want you to stop being afraid and telling yourself that you can't do things. Stop telling yourself 'no.' You are so creative and talented. I just want you to start going after what you want. Stop making excuses and start saying, 'yes - I can do this!"
Anytime my dreams/thoughts/goals are stifled by the biggest critic in the room (me), I'm thankful my biggest fan and supporter is sitting next to me, cheering me on.
